For an exotic meal, try the Peruvian restaurants in Costa Rica. San Jose has many of the top Peruvian restaurants in Costa Rica, but you will also find them in certain beach towns. Many of the seafood dishes are based on corvina, or sea bass. But try the cold appetizers with spicy onions, and you will be amazed at what can be done with a potato!

The most convenient to the downtown area is La Palma on Avenida 9 and Calle 9. La Palma also has other fare and some fine wine to accompany the meal; Open 5-9 PM, closed Mondays and Sundays.
The newest Peruvian restaurant in San Jose is La Fortaleza, which opened in June of 2005; It's on the corner of Calle Central and Avenida 7.
On the west side of town, Macchu Pichu is just off Paseo Colon and is a great daytime dining spot that serves Peruvian beer called Cuzquena. This one has been highly recommended by most travel guides.
