Costa Rican Rainforest Plants

The rainforest plants of Costa Rica come in every hue of green, from deep emerald to chartreuse. During even a brief stroll along a narrow path through the rainforest, you can spy nearly every one of them.


The star plant seen in this photograph is unrelated to the star plants of the North American deserts. Those are actually a type of cacti or succulent whose scientific name is Astrophytum ornatum. The tropical plants native to Central America, as seen in the picture, are merely nicknamed "star plant" by the locals.
