Tamarindo is best known as one of Costa Rica's top surfing destinations. True, yet there are tons of other fun things to do in Tamarindo, Costa Rica. One tour outfit even offers an ATV surf tour, driving ATVs into the rain forest and to hidden beaches otherwise inaccessible. Or you can rent a dirt bike or regular bicycle and explore on your own.
Snorkeling and diving are some of the best anywhere in the Western Hemisphere. Kayaking up the estuary presents a myriad of opportunities to see wildlife, from monkeys to parrots to crocodiles.
If you want to learn how to surf, there are several surf camps that include board rental with the lessons. Advanced lessons are also available. Of course, you may just want to kick back on the beach or at the pool side bar
Fishing for Marlin and Sailfish
And the sport fishing here is incredible. You can charter a boat for a half-day, or go farther offshore on a full-day trip to improve your chances of hooking up a marlin or sailfish. Sport fishing boats can run from $500 up to over $1,500, but the bigger the boat, the more fishermen can take part in the fun. Like the sailing trips, all food and beverages are included on most boats. For special package rates for multi day fishing safaris contact us:

Volcanoes and Rain Forest Canopy Tours
The volcanos, geysers and hot springs of Rincon de la Vieja National Park to the north are close enough for a day trip. The volcano at Arenal National Park is also within driving distance, though you may want to spend the evening there to see the nighttime eruptions and go on a zip line canopy tour. (There are other canopy tours closer to the town, of course.) From October through March, you may witness the arrival of Leatherback Sea Turtles for nesting season at Las Baulas Marine National Park.
A tropical sunset paints the sky every evening, and you can enjoy it from your room or balcony if you stay at a place with an ocean view. Monkey Bar at Best Western is one of our favorites, but there are new ones popping up faster than mushrooms in the rain forest.
