Self Drive Costa Rica Vacations

With a rental car from Adventure Tours in Costa Rica, you can reach the most distant point in this beautiful Central American country in a day. And a self drive Costa Rica vacation is a fun, as well as, an economical way the way to go when traveling with two or more people.

Economy, rental car our partner agency has 8 locations around Costa Rica, so about any where you go they are nearby.

Jaco Beach is less than two hours from San Jose; Manuel Antonio, another two hours. Rental cars are not vital in these areas, but you should have one to get around in Guanacaste, where the attractions are spread out too far to take taxis.

You will find a wide variety of autos, from SUVs to compact, economical cars. Four-wheel drive is a must for rainy season, and also a practical idea for trips to areas with bad roads, such as the Arenal Volcano National Park and Drakes Bay.

Seat belts are required. MOPT (the local highway patrol) uses radar at key points on the road from San Jose to Jaco and to Guanacaste.

Some drivers will blink their lights to warn you, so keep an eye out. Should you get a speeding ticket, you can turn it in to the agency, which will add it to your bill and pay it for you, saving valuable holiday time.

Pay close attention if you must drive after dark. This is particularly true in Guanacaste, where livestock roam freely.

Except for major highways, most roads are narrow, with lots of switchbacks and tight curves in the mountains.

Keep an eye out for big buses and trucks coming from the other direction. Often you must stop and let them make the curve.
