Hotels in San Jose, Costa Rica

In the Costa Rica capital of San Jose, hotels accommodate a wide range of budgets. No matter where you stay, you will find easy access to the most dynamic city in Costa Rica.

From large hotels such as the Marriott, a colonial hacienda set on a 30 acre coffee plantation, decorated with antiques for an elegant and relaxed atmosphere. The architecture, grounds and exceptional service are captivating. Host your event in our 11350 sq-ft of versatile function space. Relax and enjoy the facilities after a long day of sight seeing or meetings. Swim in our two outdoor pools or pamper yourself at our Palmas Wellness & Spa. Let your senses guide you to our magnificent restaurants. We are sure that Costa Rica Marriott has everything to satisfy your Costa Rica experience.

Many downtown places are right smack in the middle of the area of Avenida Central and Calle 9, and Barrio Amon, near Parque Morazan. From here, you stroll along the pedestrian walkway, taking pictures and photos of local vendors, historic buildings, and pot holes. Shop for souvenirs at the outdoor artisan mall near the National Museum, only a five minute walk from the hotel area.

The west side, around Paseo Colon, is also home to a variety of hotels. So is the vicinity of El Pueblo, near the financial district a couple of minutes north of downtown.

One big difference between the places in the city and those on the beaches is that the room rates do not go up during high season (from December through May). There is only one season in the city, and that is Party Season. Be sure to drop into some of the down town clubs and bars. Take in a play -- theatre is popular with the Ticos, though many of the shows have adult themes.

Another thing that differs from the rest of the country is the climate. Remember that the capital of this country is in the middle of the Central Valley, and they call it the central valley because it is completely surrounded and ringed by mountains.

The altitude in San Jose is 3800 ft. above sea level. So, if you are arriving from a flat, low area such as Florida, you will feel the difference immediately. You will also notice that the evenings are cooler, especially just outside the city proper.

During the Costa Rican summer, what they call rainy season, which starts around May and continues off and on through November, you can enjoy a stroll along Paseo Colon or the pedestrian walkway -- because the showers, which usually last for a few hours, cool the air for a few hours, making the climate very nice for an evening stroll.
