Tabacon Springs Resort is one of the most popular resorts in Costa Rica and it affords some of the best views of Arenal Volcano. Tabacon also offers activities for the kids, making it a highly recommended resort for the family vacation.
There are 95 standard rooms and 11 Junior Suites. All have a private terrace or balcony facing the tropical gardens. Some rooms feature stunning views of nearby Arenal Volcano. Each suite has its own Jacuzzi. All have air conditioning, cable TV and other amenities. Some have king beds
Hot Springs and Spa
The large pool has a swim-up bar. Guests have unlimited access to the hot springs and mineral waters, as well as the Iskandria Spa. But you must wear those goofy wrist bands, which give the place a theme park feel.
Tours of the volcano (though not to the top) may be arranged in the lobby.
Other attractions include spectacular waterfalls in the town of Fortuna, day trips to the cloud forests of Monteverde and Santa Elena, canopy zip line tours and other outdoor activities.
Dining is at least a three-star experience in terms of the food. However restaurant service is slow by US standards and average by Latin America.
The key to enjoying a stay here is to not expect the four-star luxury experience touted by their brochures and web site. This is among the best places in the area, but at times it can be uneven.
TIP
And if you really want to see the volcano, don't go during rainy season (May through November), as the peak is frequently obscured by clouds.
